Coming Home to Ourselves

As we enter the soft, feminine waters of this Cancer New Moon, we’re offered a sacred moment to slow down, breathe deeply, and listen to what our heart is really longing for.

Cancer, ruled by the Moon herself, speaks the language of emotion, intuition, and protection. It governs the sacred spaces of home, family, roots, and belonging. It invites us to build emotional safety, not just around us, but within us.

This particular New Moon may feel extra potent if, like me, your natal Moon is in Cancer. It can bring up deep waves of memory, longing, and emotional truth. But it also holds the medicine of softness. Of being held. Of coming back to the most tender parts of yourself, the ones that don’t need fixing, just presence.

What’s stirring under this New Moon?

We’re being asked to:

  • Return to our emotional truth, even the messy, unfiltered parts.

  • Re-parent ourselves with softness, care, and compassion.

  • Set boundaries that honour our inner world.

  • Plant seeds for a more grounded and nourishing life — in our homes, our relationships, and our own hearts.

This is a powerful time to ask:

What does “home” mean to me now?

What do I need to feel safe, seen, and supported?

Where can I soften?

Five Moon Rituals

The New Moon in Cancer is an invitation to reconnect with your inner world and prioritise emotional well-being. It’s a time for setting intentions that support your emotional safety, nurturing your sensitive heart, and creating space for deep healing. Cancer, being ruled by the moon, amplifies our intuition and our connection to the cycles of the earth and our own emotional rhythms. This sacred time is all about honouring yourself, so here are some rituals to help you align with the energy of the New Moon.

1. Take a Long Bath or Foot Soak with Salt and Lavender

  • How to do it: Fill your bath with warm water, adding a handful of Epsom salt or sea salt. Salt is purifying, helping to clear negative energy and stress from your body and mind. Add a few drops of lavender essential oil or a small handful of lavender flowers. Lavender promotes calm and relaxation, making it the perfect companion for this ritual. As you soak, visualise the water washing away emotional baggage, leaving you feeling refreshed and at peace. Take deep breaths, sink into the water, and allow the lavender scent to envelop you. Feel the healing power of water, cleansing both physically and emotionally.

2. Journal About What Emotional Safety Means to You

  • How to do it: Create a quiet, sacred space for reflection. Take a deep breath and think about emotional safety. What does it mean for you to feel truly safe in your emotions, thoughts, and space? Reflect on what emotional safety looks like in relationships, both with others and with yourself. Do you feel supported? Do you feel heard? Use this journal session to explore your feelings around boundaries, nurturing, and self-compassion. You may also want to journal about any past experiences that have shaped your understanding of emotional safety, and how you can heal those areas moving forward.

3. Light a Candle with the Intention of Returning to Your Centre

  • How to do it: Choose a candle that resonates with you, perhaps in calming tones of white, blue, or purple — colors that evoke serenity and healing. As you light the candle, close your eyes for a moment and focus on your breath. Visualise the flame representing your inner light, steady and strong. Set the intention that this light will help you return to your centre, no matter the emotional storms you may face. Focus on the flicker of the flame, feeling yourself drawn back to your heart. Allow the candle to burn through your ritual, holding space for this inner reconnection.

4. Place Your Hands on Your Heart and Offer Yourself the Words You’ve Always Needed to Hear

  • How to do it: Find a comfortable position where you can sit with your hands over your heart. Breathe deeply and allow the weight of your hands to remind you of the sacred connection between your body and soul. In this space of stillness, offer yourself the words of love, reassurance, and comfort you’ve always needed to hear. Maybe it’s, "I am enough," or "I am worthy of love," or even, "I trust myself." These words are medicine for your spirit. Say them with intention, feeling them deeply in your chest as your hands rest on your heart. Repeat them several times, letting each word sink deeper into your being.

5. Let Yourself Cry If You Need To — Tears Are Healing Waters Too

  • How to do it: Emotions have a way of flowing naturally, especially during a Cancerian New Moon. If tears arise during your ritual, embrace them. Crying is a form of emotional release that cleanses and heals. Tears help release stagnant energy and bring emotional clarity. As you allow yourself to cry, know that this is a sacred form of self-care. Release any pent-up emotions, knowing that the tears are healing waters. Let them flow, allowing yourself to feel all that needs to be felt. Afterward, sit in silence, and give yourself the grace to rest in the stillness, knowing you have made space for healing.

Final Reflections

This New Moon is less about productivity and more about protection. Less about striving and more about softening into being. It’s a sacred reset, not just for what we do, but for how we feel.

Be gentle with yourself.

Rest.

Speak softly.

Let your inner child be heard.

I’ll be holding a Reiki-infused meditation and journaling ceremony for the New Moon. You are warmly invited to join me in this circle of tenderness and intention.
