and location

MoaAlm has 6 spacious and thoughtfully decorated guest rooms, all with ensuite bathrooms and stunning views of the mountains. All rooms can be made up with a double or two single beds. Two guest rooms are also available as triple rooms, ideal for groups of friends or solo travellers. In addition, MoaAlm has a large communal living area where you can curl up on the sofa and unwind, a south facing terrace with outdoor furniture and grassy area with stunning views of the mountains. The hot tub is wood-fired and only heated by burning sustainable firewood sourced from a farmer in the village, kept clean through a natural salt cleaning system, using magnesium-rich Epsom and Dead Sea Salts - great for the legs after a hike! There is also a bar serving cocktails and non-alcoholic drinks, a coffee machine and a TV room.

MoaAlm is situated in the Hohe Tauern National Park in Austria, Austria’s largest national park and offers a superb base to explore the mountains of East Tirol. Highlights of the national park include high peaks, glaciers, alpine creeks, lakes and it is home to Alpine wildlife such as the Golden Eagle, Bearded Vulture, Ibex and Marmots. Situated just 3km above the small and picturesque village of Kals am Grossglockner, the nearest city is Lienz, connected to the nearest airports of Innsbruck, Klagenfurt, Salzburg and Munich, by bus and train.

About the food

Food is an important and special part of the retreat, which we will enjoy together at the large dining table whilst chatting about the day’s adventures.  During the retreat, our chefs will create beautiful three course meals every evening for our group, inspired by the surrounding Alpine Tyrolean mountain cuisine as well as the chefs’ travels and explorations to other continents. All food used is sourced locally, including from MoaAlm’s own vegetable and herb garden and from companies that strive to be sustainable and have a selection of the best produce for a healthy and nutritional lifestyle. Vegan afternoon cake is also served, a well-deserved treat after an active day. For those not used to a vegan, plant-based diet, there will be opportunities to try the local dishes when we eat out at the local mountain huts on hiking days and restaurants. Special diets can also be catered for, just let us know in advance and we will make sure that you will have plenty of options too.
